by Amanda Boughey

Welcome back to our Meet the Postie series. Each month I sit down with a fellow member of the Postie team to ask them questions about work, life, and everything in between. These posts are loaded with relatable stories, tips on stress management and work/life balance, fun photos, and more. Last month we sat down with Zack Garner, a superstar on our sales team. This month you get to meet Sandy Brackbill, someone who has been with Postie since the beginning. Sandy is a direct mail expert, loves her family and being a grandma, and can’t say enough great things about the Postie team. Let’s dive…

What inspired you to join Postie?

In 2017, I worked at a commercial printing company where I had the pleasure of being the CSR for the Postie account, working closely with Postie Co-Founders Dave and Jonathan.  We spent many hours together talking mail and getting their first campaigns deployed. It was inspiring watching them develop and grow in the DM spectrum. With each new development, it was obvious they were onto something intricately beneficial to clients. Two years later, I had the opportunity to join the team and did so without hesitation.

What do you love most about your job?

Working alongside the incredible people on the Ops Team—and everyone here. It’s such a privilege. Not only are they experts in their fields, but they’re also truly wonderful people!

What are you most proud of, professionally, since joining Postie?

There is always so much to learn, so I guess, increased knowledge. Not just in the Operations Dept but across all departments. My background was in mailing. At Postie, my eyes have been opened to truly becoming a partner with our clients through data science, analysis, and collaboration to help propel them to the next level. We partner with clients to the extent that our teams meld into one.

Tell us something about your professional development journey.

My journey has been diverse, starting with delivering newspapers alongside my brothers, moving on to a clothing boutique, and then transitioning into banking. However, the most cherished chapter of my life was spending 10 years as a stay-at-home mom to my three children. After that, I ventured into the direct mail world, rising through the ranks from a beginner to Manager. Mailing has a unique character of its own, and I’ve truly enjoyed it—there’s always something new to discover!

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced since joining Postie?

I’m going to have to echo Cristina on this one. Bill Wieners’ passing has been the most challenging. He was a mentor and a great friend. He is truly missed!

What have been some of the most important lessons you’ve learned throughout your career?

Lean into those ahead of you in the journey, and those behind you. Embrace relationships, not only sharing your knowledge but truly listening and learning from others.

“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much”-Helen Keller

How has your role evolved since joining Postie?

My role has evolved significantly, particularly in building and maintaining our Print Cloud. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed connecting with so many individuals across the country who have become more than just printers—they’ve become true partners. These partners bring deep expertise in print and mail, collaborating closely with us to ensure the successful execution of each campaign.

Where do you think you can have the biggest impact in your role?

By continuing to learn, grow in knowledge, and sharing those gems with others.

What do you think is the most important skill that you bring to the table?

I would say my 25 years of experience and learning in this industry, where mailing and postal regulations are vast, complex, and constantly evolving.

What is the most important lesson that you’ve learned from working with the team?

Build a team of dependable experts and trust them to do the work they were hired for. Delegation hasn’t always been my strong suit, but I’ve come to realize it’s the most effective way to lead a team efficiently.

What’s your favorite memory from working at Postie?

That would be the first time I walked into the LA Office and was greeted so warmly with smiles and hugs. The absolute best people, this Postie family.

Do you have any strategies for dealing with stress at work?

When it gets overwhelming, stop, take a deep breath, and then move forward one step at a time instead of trying to do it all at once.

What tips or advice would you give someone starting a new job in your field?

Find a mentor whose been in the industry a while. Ask questions, take notes, and refer to them often. Soak in all you can from everyone around you and every source.

Do you have any mentors (Postie or otherwise) you’d like to shout out? If so, who and how has this person made an impact in your life?

When I first entered the DM industry, my friend and boss, Sandie, invested her time and knowledge to ensure I had a firm foundation on which to build. I am forever thankful for her.  Bill Wieners also made a huge impact on my life. His vast knowledge of, well, everything, coupled with his willingness to share it, his kindness, and his genuine care for those around him, made him truly unforgettable.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I am all about family!! I love the time I spend with my husband, Doug, and our very spoiled Goldendoodle, Penny. I also enjoy reading as a favorite pastime.

What would your perfect weekend look like?

Anytime I can spend with family is Perfect Time!!

What’s something surprising that not many people know about you?

I’ve always dreamed of going on an African safari. I’m captivated by the beauty of God’s creation—from mesmerizing sunsets or a starry night to animals roaming freely in their natural habitat, to breathtaking mountain landscapes. While these wonders are stunning here, I’d love to experience them in Africa!

Do you follow any sports teams?

I‘m not a die-hard sports fan, but I do follow Golden Knights hockey and enjoy NASCAR. However, my favorite driver, Martin Truex Jr., recently retired.

What type of books/movies do you enjoy?

I’m very into John Grisham novels. I’ve read them all, except the last two, and they are on my mantle waiting their turn to be read.

Do you have any creative outlets or interests?

Serving at my church. Attending each Sunday, serving meals at gatherings, and serving the community through events like Trunk or Treat.

What’s a cause that you are passionate about?

Helping women in unintended pregnancies know that they are not alone or without hope. There are resources available for them throughout their pregnancy and support into the first years of raising their child.

What’s something you’ve always wanted to try/learn?

Skydiving. I should have done that when I was younger! I’m too big of a chicken now!

What is the best thing that has happened to you this year?

That’s easy. Seeing my kids and grandkids. They have all moved away and I treasure each moment I can spend with them!!

If you could pick any superpower, what would it be and why?

It would be beyond great to teleport to see family. We’d stay so much more connected and what a timesaver!!!

That was fun, Sandy! With that, I’ll see you all next time! 🚀
